Louie Podiums again Down Under in New Zealand:

14 year-old Taku Hiraoka (JPN), who dominated the pre-qualifiers and qualifiers, continued to amaze with his first run score of 89.35 points setting the benchmark. Hiraoka’s run was a backside 540, frontside inverted 720, Cab 1080, and massive frontside 900 tailgrab. This Cinderella story proved that it’s possible to ride all the way from the pre-qualifier round through to the podium and second place. But taking the win was Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) who let out all stops on his second run with a huge crippler, double McTwist 1260, frontside 1080 tailgrab, and Cab 720 for an impressive 93.70 points. Louie Vito (USA) also had a strong second run to jump up into third place with 88.04 points. Louie’s run started with a frontside 1080 double-cork, Cab 1080 double-cork, double crippler, backside 900, and frontside corked 900.

It was also a monumental day for judging, with the newly developed Snowboard Live Scoring system (SLS) proving itself for the first time in the halfpipe. Scores are given for each individual hit during a run, as well as a flow score, to provide a very transparent and informative final score. Viewers of the live webcast on GO211.com were able to see this system in action and watch real-time ranking changes, among other features of the webcast.

Got my hands on a new 2011 Nitro T1 to try out ths weekend up in Mammoth. 156cm, zero or flat camber. Should be the best of both worlds. Edges were a little sharp, so I figure this was faster than using a file.

I got a chance to jump on a Bateleon snowboard this past weekend to see what all this triple base technology was all about. I rode the Evil Twin model. I didn't get a chance to de-tune the edges, so I just went for it. Surprisingly, it felt pretty catch free on boxes and rails. Really responsive and a super fun ride

Black Death are an American band who have been noted as the "first all-African-American heavy metal band." The group were also mentioned in Ian Christe's book Sound of the Beast: The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal, and metnioned Rock 'n' roll and the Cleveland connection by Deanna R. Adams as "one of the only, if not the only, all-black metal bands in the country" in 1987

The group formed in 1977 in Ohio and had a fan following in their local area. After several lineup changes and demos the group eventually released their self-titled debut in 1984.

Junkyard Jam...Progress

Today we started tearing up old wood and rebuilding the mini ramp for the big Junkyard Jam Invitational April 3rd. info here Started the day off with some Roman Candle remains, some hard labor, and a fresh Bee Hive that has been growing over the past year. The guys are working on 2 new layers of plywood, and the new addition of Skatelite! Coping will be set just right and the Junkyard Jam should make for a great contest. Podium Finishes Jamie Madrid

Congratulations to 16yr old Jamie Madrid. Jaime grabbed herself a 2nd and 3rd place finish up at 2 different contests in Tahoe this past weekend. At the Trans Am Rail Jam Northsatr, Jamie ended up 3rd out of 28 girls. Then off to Boreal for the Rev Tour. Jamie took 2nd place out of 29 girls there.

Monday Bloody Monday

So we figured we would hit some Mt Baldy in the AM and head to work around 1pm yesterday. We got to the parking lot and it seemed like it was rained out, but to our surprise the snow was really good up top. We hiked up to the Twilights for our 1st run and found some good stuff. We were headed back to the lift and I see a little tree tunnel to a fresh patch. I go blasting through the trees to get chin checked by a branch. I didn't think much of it until I put my glove up to my face to see if I was bleeding.

I ended up getting 6 stitches and the Doctor said it should heal with little to no scar. That means I will be ready for the annual chin modeling expo 2010! Sweeeet Cheeks!

Mt High Ribs and Rails

So I headed up to Mt High after work last night to go mess around. Conditions were deep sugar on top of ice, and icey chunky snow... You can't expect much for night boarding around So Cal. I made a few runs and all felt pretty solid. I was starting my run off with front 50/50 on this single down rail. This is a trick I hate, especially, when the rail has a skinny, weird tweaked shape to it. For the most part, I had it on lock...until the sugar got the best of me. Mushy ollie that lead to an ugly lock on, that lead to sketchy slide, to slip, to bounce off my rib cage and throw me onto my back on the icey sugar. OUCH, knocked wind out and thought I broke a rib or two. Caught my breath, and headed back down to the car. Hurts to breathe deep or cough, pissed some blood and I am back to work. Hopefully nothing broken, I will give it a couple days. Lots of fun stuff up there to hit, just be careful... sometimes learning is pain!

On another note, I came across a pretty sweet old snowboard that reminded me of the old Bear Park... I think this was called the Pyro?

So we made it out to Utah Thursday night to meet up with the So Cal DC crew and some of their retailers. Woke up early Friday morning and got a tour of Skullcandy Offices, and then headed over to the DC Mtn Lab. We pull up to this amazing property and are welcomed in. To our surprise, the entire DC pro team was their for some meetings. So in addition to getting the priveledge of riding the lab, we got to kick back and hang with some of the best snowboarders in the world. We took a bunch of pictures and a little video for memories. Once I get it edited up, you will see the fun times we had. Special thanks to Doug Coger and his crew, DC and Skullcandy. AMAZING trip, great new friends, sore bodies, and Tony Romo.

SKULLCANDY teamed up with KAB Rails to create this monsterous jib feature for the CANYONS Resort. It is a realistic scaled up version of the Skullcandy Pipe and even plays music while you get your jib on. Keep an eye out for a SKDYtv piece shredding the pipe coming soon.

We are going to be riding here on Saturday, and definitely checking out the new feature.

The Brandbase team had some early appointments to show their new lines in Salt Lake City this past December. Mike from the shops and myself were able to get out there for some early riding and good times.

Found a few little powder stashes up at Snowbird, and got a little work done at the same time. Thanks again to Nomis and the Brandbase Team.

There is a little place in Utah we were invited to go check out this week. DC Mtn lab. Kind of feels like we are headed to Willie Wonkas Chocolate Factory. Should be pretty awesome, great people and good times. I will let you know how it all goes.
